Township Board meets 2nd Tuesday each month at 7:00 p.m.*

Planning Commission meets 1st Thursday each month at 7:00 p.m.

Zoning Board of Appeals meets 2nd Monday, quarterly at 7:00 p.m. (March, June, September **, December)

All Regular meetings are held at the Township Offices at 5245 N. M-18, Roscommon.  Special meetings, when required, will be posted as they are scheduled. 

Regular Township Board, Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals meetings are open to the general public.

We welcome our South Branch Township residents to attend!

*Exception for March - The Township Board will meet on the 3rd Tuesday in March.

Applicant Name:  Paul Sylvester

Property Address:  8357 Sylvester Trail, T26N, R1W, Sec 08, Crawford County

Proposed Action:  The applicant is requesting a dimensional variance from the standards to construct a second story addition on a legal nonconforming primary dwelling.

  • A variance to expand a legal nonconforming structure with the addition of an upper level, rather than an increase to the ground floor area.
  • Increasing the height of a legal nonconforming structure from 16 feet to 29 feet in total height.

SBT Planning Commission Public Meeting

April 5th 2018 at 6:00 pm

South Branch Township Fire Hall, 5245 N. M-18, Roscommon

Special Use Permit (PUD) – Au Sable Riverview Resort

The SBT Planning Commission held a Public Meeting on April 5th 2018, to continue deliberations began at the Public Hearing which was held on December 7th 2017 for Au Sable Riverview Resort. The applicant seeks a Stream Corridor Planned Unit Development (SC-PUD). The Planning Commission did not render a decision at the December 7th meeting, electing instead to postpone any decision until additional information was provided by the applicant. Additional information provided by the applicant was received and discussed at the April 5th meeting by the Planning Commission members. No decision was rendered at the April 5th meeting and deliberations will continue at the May 10th special meeting with a decision to be made at the conclusion of deliberations. The Public Comment period is now CLOSED.

The South Branch Township Planning Commission held a public meeting to discuss possible actions to either allow or prohibit some or all of the facilities regulated by the MMFLA, Public Act 281 of 2016. The public engagement session was attended by thirteen concerned citizens. Public Hearing - February 1st 2018

Ordinance Amendments - Ordinance #1 of 2018

Proposed amendments to the South Branch Township Zoning Ordinance were accepted and recommended for adoption by the South Branch Township Planning Commission. Prior to adoption of the proposed amendments, they have been sent to the Crawford County Planning Commission for a thirty (30) day review period.

Public Hearing - December 7th 2017

Au Sable Riverview Resort & Au Sable Fly & Tackle, LLC
Next meeting date - April 5, 2018 at 6:00 PM

The South Branch Township Planning Commission held a public hearing regarding a proposed Special Use Permit for a Planned Unit Development on behalf of Au Sable Riverview Resort & Au Sable Fly & Tackle, LLC whose address is 1320 S. Mc Master’s Bridge Rd & 10935 Linger Longer Rd, respectively. All interested parties were invited to attend the hearing and comment on the proposed Special Use Permit. Written comments were to be mailed to South Branch Township, Attn: Zoning Admin, P.O. Box 606, Roscommon, MI 48653, or emailed to zoningadmin@southbranchtownship.com and were accepted until December 1, 2017.

Twenty-five residents attended the meeting and there were thirteen comments received during the comment period. The special use permit request was postponed, with no decision rendered at this time. Additional information was requested of the applicant by the Planning Commission. The public comment period has been reopened and additional comments regarding this case will be accepted until 12:00 noon, Wednesday, March 28th 2018.
